Fake News can distort people's world views, spread hate and even split our society. As the world gets increasingly networked, the dangers of Fake News get even more severe. In our course, we created projects that help educate people about the topic.
To raise awareness about the topic, the project is aimed at students and teachers. It's a travelling poster exhibition, that can be presented at schools for a certain amount of time. The posters presented in the exhibition are digitally enhanced through Augmented Reality and introduce the students to the problem and possible solutions for Fake News. The students have to download the free app Artivive and point their smartphone cameras towards the posters. That way, an animation starts to play on their phone's display.
The exhibition includes 9 posters explaining the reasons for Fake News, certain keywords, and stating what everyone can do to spot and prevent them. At the end of the exhibition, the students get free booklets iterating the most important facts and tips shown in the animations. The booklets also include small versions of the posters, so they can rewatch the animations or show them to their friends and family.
The project has been published at Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz and on our university's website.
With my fellow student, I was also able to present the project at the ADC Creative Club in Stuttgart, Germany. The event was hosted by the Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) under the motto "Social Design".
