During my undergraduate studies and in my internships, I had almost no contact with accessible design, even though it is a very important topic that concerns a lot of people and is key to inclusion. So for my bachelor’s project, I decided to deal with the topic of accessible app design to raise awareness amongst designers.
There are many users with different impairments and prerequisites who cannot use a large number of apps due to a lack of accessibility. However, especially those groups of people can be enabled and gain independence through their smartphones and apps. Nevertheless, the subject of accessibility is not being taken into account enough. Neither in the design studies nor in the everyday work of app design.
This project creates more awareness about the relevance of accessibility in app design. For this project, the relevant user groups were analyzed through 10 interviews. The findings of those interviews, as well as the conclusions of studies then resulted in a guide to accessible app design: Noba. This guide is being distributed through a website and an Instagram channel in order to raise awareness of the topic amongst designers, to give them an easy introduction to the topic, and thus promote digital participation.
The project can be found on Instagram and on the website.
It is being displayed in our university's online graduate exhibition was published on our university's showcase website.
I was also able to present the project at the ADC Creative Club in Stuttgart, Germany. The event was hosted by the Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) under the motto "Social Design".
